Engaging fans versus enabling fans – Which do you do?

Engaging fans are the fans that want to hear about you. They want to hear about the tour, the new album, the band, and who’s dating whom.

Enabling fans are quite different. They take their own initiative and build fan sites, create videos, and record themselves on youtube playing your songs.

As an artist, you need both types. Give the engaging fans the information they crave. What do you give enabling fans? Recognition and permission. When you run across someone’s fan site, send them an email. Post a note on your site. But, let them know that you appreciate and want their support. It will come back to you in more fans.
